Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
I completed a work placement in the councils communications department. I was responsible for writing a variety of press releases for publication on the councils intranet and (published closer to the event after I had finished) on the main council website.

Lancashire Telegraph
I came across an interesting story in Blackburn whilst out on an assignment for one of my lecturers to find potential news stories. I overheard a man complaining in the Town Hall because a charity seller on the street had refused to show his identification. I overheard this and asked this man a couple of questions – I was interested as I had purchased one of the booklets they were selling earlier in the day. It looked as though the charity sellers could be frauds so I rung the Lancashire Telegraph informing them of the information I had found and the paper arranged for one of their reporters to meet me at the LT building. I discussed the story with the reporter and was told to do some more research and then write the story. The story involved a lot of online research techniques, for example I searched stories of that nature in the local area on the internet to see if there had been similar instances, perhaps with the same people. The story ended up being a splash with my byline and had a picture of me on the front as they could not get a picture of those involved.
